There are several points of interest to cycle within the city limits. Enjoy a slow easy ride along the seawall, library, grocery store, Lookout Point marsh and Turning Basins – be it on your bicycle, tricycle, motorcycle, or even a surrey with a fringe on top. Use shank’s mare or those pedal assist ecycles that are a wonderful invention to extend your time out in the fresh air.
You can range further out of town along farm roads enjoying the scenic country views. One example is riding from Johnson Road across the street from the Jr/Sr High school up to Buffalo Road. You can continue west on Buffalo up the the tip of Turtle Creek were you can fish from the bridge.

You can cycle along Main Street [Business 35] out of town past the shipyard to Margerum Street which goes along the marsh on the right and the turning basins on the left.

Lookout Point CTC 013
This site is open for day use only.
From CTC 012, proceed west on Business 35 past the turning basins, then turn left (south) on Margerum Road toward Tres Palacios Bay.
Park at the end of Margerum Road and scan the bay for waterbirds (as with the previous two sites). In addition, pay close attention to the various gulls that congregate around the fishing boats docked in the harbor. Bonaparte’s, Laughing, Ring-billed, and Herring are to be expected in winter, but each year a few oddities find their way to the coast as well.

“Turning Basin 3 at the Port of Palacios, situated at 28.696982126282858° N, -96.23097039721351° W, is a testament to the region’s rich maritime history. Located at 1602 Main St, with a mailing address of P.O. Box 551, Palacios, TX 77465, this basin is part of a larger complex that has been a hub of maritime activity since the 1920s. Constructed in 1982, Turning Basin 3 was a significant expansion to the existing harbor, complementing the earlier basins dug in 1940 and 1953. This double basin harbor has played a crucial role in attracting a diverse array of vessels, from shrimp trawlers to ferries, tugboats, and barges. The basin’s strategic location on Tres Palacios Bay, an inlet of Matagorda Bay, facilitates access to the Gulf of Mexico and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, making it an essential hub for both local and regional maritime commerce. Today, it continues to support a vibrant community of fishermen, shipbuilders, and other maritime businesses, highlighting its enduring importance in the economic and cultural fabric of Palacios.”
