Today [August 17, 2025]seemed like a good day to ride around the neighborhood. Beautiful blue sky and lovely, cottony clouds.
Ah ha! There must be cotton fields in the neighborhood to explore.
First, follow the cotton trail. There must be fields nearby, but if not, there is always the gin for photo ops.
Cool [well, not THAT cool at 99º] trike ride learning more about the cotton industry.
We saw many cotton fields in Arizona where they grew Pima cotton. We have lived in both Pima and Pinal counties. Pima cotton was developed in the United States, particularly in Arizona, through research by the USDA in the early 1900s. It is named after the Pima Native American tribe, who were involved in its cultivation.
Following the trail of cotton alongside the roads traveled by the trucks bringing those big, round bales to the gin, I came upon this ginning company on 4th Street. OK. I did know it was there, but it was fun following the cotton trail.

Another day to see how they load those trucks.
Famous Namesake
My husband was named after his great aunt’s first husband Decker Robert Ake of Fort Worth, TX. From the pictures we’ve seen, he was doing quite well. Fancy cars; grocery store owner. There was a family story about Decker and the cotton gin. Actually it was an invention regarding the cotton picker.
