Palacios Little League

From our Mayor Rick Cink

Thank you for the Little League photos. Little League is near and dear to my heart. I coached it for 33 years. I was President the last 5 years until I won the Mayoral election, so I had to give it up, but it is in good hands with Danielle Krouse this year. I’m on the District 18 Little League staff now.

Fran, my favorite photographer, thank you for your photos of opening day at Bowers Park. It was emotional for me because I dreamed of this day for 41 years.

Building a Team Guerrero Poster

AKA Brave Blue Rangers?

How did I end up going to the Little League home games?

It all goes back to meeting Brittini Guerrero during my morning sunrise walks at the seawall last year [2025].

One day I noticed her post in the Palacios Updates Facebook group where she was pleased that all of her boys were now into Little League. I thought it would be fun to ride my trike down to the ball field since is was just down the street from home.

That first day was when her youngest was playing the season opener for Tee Ball. I got some shots through the fence. A few surprisingly good.

From then on, I followed the schedule for each of the divisions to see the home games – posting many of the best focused photos. By then, I had found a place at the third base side where the fence was low enough for me to stand and photograph.

The new Bowers Park had a lower fence closer to the dugouts, so it was better. Sometimes, I shot from the first base fence line, but many times the first base coach was blocking home plate and kids running to first base. Most often, I was on the third base fence.

This season, at some point, I changed a couple of settings on the camera hoping for better action shots. One thing that paid off was shooting multiple consecutive shots – and increased the number of photos a lot.
More to choose from but so many to choose from.

Then AI came along and come to find out, I didn’t have to ditch all of the blurry ones. OK…some were beyond repair, but some expressions were too cute to delete. AI could salvage some.

So! What to do with all of these photos aside from the Facebook group?
I set up my Google Drive so family, friends, and fans could view and download their favorites, but now I’m running out of room and I haven’t even finished reviewing all of the photos!

For example, the last Tee Ball game day with ceremonies was May 9, 2026 where I shot an incredible 1,579 photos. OK all of them were not incredible, but the total number was. Many consecutive shots look the same – delete some? It’s like your eye doctor exam – which is better 1 or 2, 2 or 3?

So, now you know that since Britini and her boys influenced this adventure, I was sure to try to get decent shots of the boys, so if it looks like I was biased, that was how it played out. I tried to get all of the boys and girls in photos with close up and action shots. Not every photo was ready for prime time, though.

Last week, while reviewing shots and trying to organize them to hopefully get them uploaded for everyone’s viewing pleasure, a bright idea lit up one of those light bulbs you see in cartoons. Ah-ha! How about a Team Guerrero maybe called Brave Blue Rangers? Then, why not swap out the umpire’s head with one of the boys’?

After getting several cutouts of each of the boys to position on a ball diamond, I realized I had too many favorites.

But, how could anyone really see the boys in a regular 5X7 or 8X10 photo? I’m on a Mac with a 27” retina monitor, so it looks good to me. But, printing? I needed something bigger, but then was concerned about how the photos would get pixelated when zoomed way in.

So, with all of those questions whirling around in my brain, I decided to try printing poster size at Walgreens since my printer could not possibly handle the task.

With so many photos to choose from, I ended up making a poster for each of the boys. Walgreen’s photo printer did a fantastic job. Much better than I could have imagined.
